Griff Story

Item #2009

(August, 1985) Made for Special Effects, a store in Forest City, North Carolina, Griff is named for Griffin Rutherford, a Revolutionary War general. The store owners hoped to capture special things in the past, as well as the present, in Rutherford County by commissioning this piece. The shuttle depicts the textile industry, as does the “Crafted with Pride” logo and the spool of thread. The 1940’s auto represents the new and used car dealers of the county. This area has been referred to as “The Little Detroit of the South,” due to the number of used car dealers in the area. The coin is a Bechtler one dollar gold piece, minted at the Bechtler Mint, which is no longer in existence. The seal on the front is from Rutherford County, and the seal on the back is from North Carolina.
