(March, 1983) This piece was commissioned by Ford’s Department Store in Gilroy, California for the annual Garlic Festival. Ford’s, California’s oldest general store, sent the garlic and prunes along with the antique cannery coins and the seal of the city. The face of a prominent garlic producer, Val Filice, was used for this Woodspirit. The flowers, though colorful, are strictly my idea: California poppies with garlic centers!
